Everyone has their own unique style and a bit of each style personality is within us. Understanding different personality styles allows you to tap into and embody different parts of yourself whenever you want or need to. Because you are multifaceted, you need a multifaceted wardrobe too.  In this article, we are going to be discussing the 7 personality styles, what each style communicates visually, wardrobe staples, and fashion houses or designer recommendations for each style.

The 7 overarching different style personalities are classic, elegant, sexy, dramatic, creative, feminine, and natural. To demonstrate my styling today combine a total of two personality styles. Typically people are a hybrid of two or more style personalities with one most prominent, It helps you to curate a cohesive wardrobe and develop your style so that it’s always evolving with who you are and not with the fashion trend cycle.

Fashion is outside of yourself, while style comes from within so knowing your style personality can help you create the perfect outfit for any occasion because you’ll have a better idea of what kinds of clothes actually suit you, your image, and your lifestyle. You could also have a different style of personality during different parts of your life because of age, time, location, culture, or event. For instance, commonly in the workplace, your style might be modified for professionalism, but the main style personality is still there.

Now let’s delve into the different style personalities in depth, shall we?

ELEGANT

If you have an elegant style personality you are very chic because you have a penchant for all fashion graceful, refined, alluring, and dashing. You are very fond of aesthetics, are an avid reader, and deeply appreciate when someone compliments your taste. Your appearance and confidence are always cultivated, poised, and stylish. You respect the classics, but effortlessly put them together in a very contemporary way.

You live by the G. Bruce Boyer quote, “Never look dressed up, always look as though you just threw it on… even if it takes some time and effort. As a keen anthropologist of the posh, I can tell you that the best dressers look like they live in their clothes.”

High fashion is at the top of your must-have list, but you are fashionable without being flashy, there is beauty in simplicity for you. You aren’t very fashion-forward though. You place more value on curating pieces in the same manner as art rather than what is trending. As a result, your closet is likely full with of pieces that can be worn on multiple occasions and in multiple ways in alignment with a fashionable lifestyle and ideology.

Those with the elegant personality style have an image that emits an aura of sophistication, intelligence, and beauty while remaining personable and hold down to earth opulence as their appeal.

You enjoy upholding tradition, going out to events, and dedicating yourself to something bigger than yourself such as your work, social life, or hobbies.

If you wear a sexy style prefer to stand out from the crowd, therefore you like to wear bold colors, prints, and designs. You are confident in your ability to wear outfits many shy away from whether it be a low open back, high slit, or plunging neckline.

Those with this style personality have a cosmopolitan, sultry vibe. Glamorous without being garish. When possible, you go for a high heel, and you use accessories to your advantage to highlight your favorite features. You probably spend more time on hair and makeup over clothes, but can always give the best advice on what to wear for a night out. You are the life of the party and love to go out on the weekends. You love the quote, “In fashion, only sexy won’t go out of fashion,” by Donatella Versace. You’re the type that could even make a turtleneck seem provocative in the best way.

DRAMATIC

Those with a dramatic style personality are very outspoken, dynamic, and eye-catching personality type that commands the room from the moment they walk in.  The unexpected is celebrated in this style. You’re the type to be over the top and always make it work.  You are never one to miss the chance to wear a gorgeous vintage piece or modern luxury.  This is to say that you have a wide variety of unique pieces in your closet, all of which are ready to make a bold statement.

You’re always wearing something that is on the cutting edge of fashion, and you are prepared to give most new trends a try. You really enjoy seeing the latest fashion and what new types of clothes will come out. You instantly can envision making obscure pieces work in your everyday wear. Those with this personality are not camp, but love experimental looks and can make the most outlandish piece covetable.

CREATIVE

At heart, people with a creative personality type are expressive in nature and their style is created in the same manner as their art. You are an artist person, you indulge in it whether it be painting, photography, or music,  you cannot let a day go by without working on a creative pursuit. They have a distinct, but varied fashion taste that’s difficult to put your finger on due to their out-of-the-box thinking.

They very rarely wear trends, but instead look to their inspirations for what to wear whether it be a vintage film or their latest read.

They have an innate sense of putting together outfits in an original way most wouldn’t think of. It is not necessarily the bold outfit. Creatives can either have a very noticeable or subtle look, but they always look like they could be a character straight out of a film, the subject of a painting, or the protagonist of a novel.

As Alber Elbaz once said, “Style is the only thing you can’t buy. It’s not in a shopping bag, a label, or a price tag. It’s something reflected from our soul to the outside world—an emotion.” This is your style in a nutshell. This is the one and only personality type that is very difficult to channel if it does not come naturally to you.

Someone with this style personality has an image that places emphasis on living passionately by way of his or her fashion sense, hobbies, charisma, and the enjoyment of life’s artistic pursuits.

Staples for this style personality depends on the person’s influences. For example, if a creative loved old Hollywood, the base foundation of their look would consist of a lot of garments found in costume design. But no matter the inspiration, their wardrobe is often mixed with another style personality to a further degree which results in otherworldly jewelry, one-of-the-kind color schemes, excessive accessories, and fresh takes on classic pieces through silhouette, texture, and patterns.

FEMININE

Many with a feminine personality style favor everything light, romantic, sweet, and charming with a touch of nostalgia. They are the type to get all dolled up wherever they go and have turned playing dress up into a lifestyle. You love tea parties, always buy fresh flowers, shopping, really anything girly, and opt for flattering clothes rather than flaunting. You love the Coco Chanel quote, “a girl should be two things: who and what she wants.” You most likely have a love for Audrey Hepburn and/or Marilyn Monroe, Paris or New York, and romanticize every day life. You are unapologetic about how soft you are as you make even the little things special.

A common misconception about this style personality is that you only wear dresses and skirts, but you’re really interested in any piece charming as they often wear clothing that reflects their gentleness and playful side in a dulcet poised manner. This could mean a skirt or dress, but you can always retain your aesthetic in sporty outfits such as a sports bra and shorts or an office outfit with trousers through your girly or glam interpretation of it.

The feminine style personality is ladylike and gentle, projecting an image of delicacy, tenderness, and compassion. They are “La vie en rose” or “seeing life through rose-colored glasses” personified.

Staples: Flowing dresses, dainty ruffled blouses, mini skirts, kitten heels, bows in the hair, mini handbags,  ballet flats, headbands, plush hats, copious amounts of jewelry, jewel embroideries, high knee socks, heels, fur coats, or feathers executed within the delicate sweet color palette.

NATURAL

Last, but certainly not least is natural. This style personality is all about function and form in an understated way. Comfort is held to the highest degree and they are never one to shy away from relaxed fits. They have mastered the art of looking stylish while always being cozy in the winter or breezy in the summer.

Often their laid-back approach to fashion creates simple yet striking looks that can be worn anytime, anywhere. There is a beautiful ease to his or her look without the sacrifice of aesthetic sensibility. You go toward clean, simple fashion and avoid elaborate fashion. Typically, you are either someone outdoorsy and conscious of wellness who enjoys time spent in nature and/or someone who is a bit of a homebody and loves coffee shops or snuggling up on the couch. You go out equally as much as staying as you are someone more family oriented or have very good friends. As Ralph Lauren once said, “It’s about living the best life you can and enjoying the fullness of the life around you- from what you wear, to the way you live, to the way you love.” The less time getting ready the better as you take a liking to clothing that is as punctual as you are.

A person with a natural style personality is very down-to-earth yet elevated. Your image is one of serene composure and openness to all life has to offer when you step out the door. It is the sort of person that reminds you of holidays like Christmas.

Staples: Raw denim, airy cotton tops, snug knits, puffer jackets, matching loungewear sets, high boots, splendid overcoats, soft leggings, oversized blazers, high rise dress pants, flowing skirts, sports bras, stark white sneakers, sweater vests, long shorts

And those are the 7 style personalities. I’d love to know down below which ones resonated with you the most. I personally identify most with the elegant style personality. Often I like to pull from classic, sexy, or feminine styles when putting together outfits.

It is essential to “cherry-pick” the characteristics that you adore the most from each of the different personality styles so that your style is versatile.

For example, you have just had a long week, but want to have a productive Saturday and run errands. You want to feel comfortable, but also look put together as you’re going to many different stores so you may take on a more classic and natural essence to your look. Knowing your main personality style, helps you understand which clothes empower you as well as the statement your style is making. You can use the other style personalities to show up in the world the way you wish to.
